MAKING AN IMPACT

Maui, an artist and cultural voice rooted in both Native and Black communities, brings a deep sense of soul, movement, and message to his role at Human Writes Music Group. Born in 1982 at UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento, he moved to Fairfield, California at the age of two or three—a place that gave him his city wisdom and foundational identity. His name, “Maui,” was given to him as a childhood nickname by his Auntie Miss Linda, a nod not only to his family roots but also to the legendary Hawaiian demigod—a symbol of power, transformation, and resilience. Maui’s passion for music came early, inspired by his mother as they traveled together from Fairfield to Hoopa several times a month, vibing to oldies and classic tracks that now form the soundtrack of his soul.
Though incarceration slowed him down musically, it became a turning point in his life as a man—offering him clarity, grounding, and a more serious outlook on life. Through that journey, Maui found a deeper peace within himself and a new respect for the world around him. His music is both a release and a rally: it’s made for people to move, groove, and let go of their worries, while still tuning into deeper messages about overcoming struggles and creating joy in the face of adversity. As an artist, he seeks to bring representation, hope, and celebration to Native communities—offering a sound they can relate to and gather around. With musical influences like Mac Dre, Tupac, and Nipsey Hussle, Maui follows in the footsteps of artists who spoke truth from the heart, stayed close to their people, and walked their own path with purpose.
For Maui, healing means forgiving yourself and showing up for others when it counts. His turning point came with the death of Biggie Smalls—a moment that cracked something open in him and sparked the decision to chase his artistic dreams. That fire has never gone out. He never stopped believing in himself, even when others told him hip-hop wasn’t for him. Now, his goals reach far beyond personal success: Maui aims to become a powerful voice for Native and Black communities, a living example of what it means to be the change. Whether through music, mentorship, or movement, he’s here to show the next generation that their stories matter—and that healing, unity, and joy can come through the beat.

Dar.io is more than just a stage name — it’s his real name, Dario, a name passed down from his father that carries strength, purpose, and legacy. Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Dar.io grew up between Bernal Heights, the Fillmore, South San Francisco, and parts of Sunnyvale and Scotts Valley. Experiencing life in all these different environments exposed him to both the beauty and hardships of the world at an early age, shaping the man and artist he would become. Every place left its imprint, giving him a deeper understanding of people, struggle, survival, and growth.

Music was part of Dar.io’s life from the very beginning. His father, a Salsa Jazz musician, introduced him to the energy of live performance, musicianship, and the power of connecting with crowds. Watching his father perform inspired something in him early on. By the age of nine or ten, Dar.io was secretly writing songs and poems, already drawn to artists with substance, storytelling, and lyrical depth. Alongside his brother, who would beatbox while Dar.io rapped his first lines, music became more than entertainment — it became expression, therapy, and purpose.
Like many young men growing up in difficult environments, Dar.io faced struggles that led him through Juvenile Hall and the youth system. Those experiences became life lessons that continue to influence his music today. His lyrics reflect authenticity because they come from lived experience, not fabrication. Dar.io speaks openly about pain, survival, accountability, and hope, always staying grounded in truth. For him, healing means becoming a better person and understanding the responsibility that comes with having a voice. He believes music should not only entertain, but also inspire reflection, growth, and change.
Influenced by legendary lyricists and storytellers such as Ice Cube, Scarface, Rakim, Nas, KRS-One, Outkast, Too Short, Richie Rich, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and many more, Dar.io carries a deep respect for real hip-hop and meaningful songwriting. His mission is simple: create honest music from the heart that people can truly connect with. Whether speaking for those who’ve lived through struggle or encouraging people searching for a better path, Dar.io wants his music to remind listeners that change is possible. His journey is still unfolding, filled with endless stories to tell, but through it all he remains committed to staying true to himself, uplifting others, and using his voice to make a lasting impact.
